Solio Lodge is located on a private wildlife sanctuary, tucked in the valley between the lofty slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, directly north of Nairobi. This intimate and luxurious lodge opened in August 2010 and remains the only guest accommodation on the incredible 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve.

Accommodation

The lodge has five luxurious cottages with private decks and panoramic views of the nearby hills and Mount Kenya in the distance. The emphasis is on space, light and privacy. Each room has a private lounge area warmed by an open fire for cooler evenings, as well as large en-suite bathrooms with a double sink, bath and shower. The rooms are designed for warmth – Solio is high in altitude and can be cool at night – and as each has its own veranda, guests can take in the stunning views from their private vantage point. There’s a wifi connection throughout. All guests enjoy full-board during their stay, which includes all meals and most drinks, excluding champagne and specially imported wines and spirits. We welcome children of all ages to Solio Lodge and one of our luxurious cottages can be turned into an interconnected family unit with two en-suite bedrooms, sleeping up to five guests.

RATES INCLUDE Airstrip transfers, game drives and exclusive use of vehicle for each group of guests, excursions to the Aberdare National Park (excluding park fees), walking, local farm visit, horse riding, mountain biking, all meals,house wines, house soft drinks, house beers, house spirits, laundry, bush breakfasts and sundowners.

RATES EXCLUDE Champagne, luxury spirits, selected wines, tips, health insurance, scenic helicopter ride, massage treatments, entrance to the Aberdare National Park, visit to Cinnabar Green and personal effects.

CHILDREN

Children are ages 3 to 15 years inclusive. 16 years and over is an adult. 2 years and under is an infant.Infants stay FOC. Extra beds are available on request. We recommend parents book the family cottage as it has a shared central area where families can enjoy time together. However, the other cottages can comfortably fit 2extra beds for children should the family cottage not be available. This is subject to occupancy levels at the lodge,so please always ask a reservation consultant should you wish to request this. Baby-listeners and special meals are by prior arrangement.

The child rate is based upon the following instances:

  • Two children sharing a room (rate applies to each child)
  • A child sharing with one adult
  • The child sharing in an extra bed rate is based upon the following instances:
  • A child (or children if more than one extra bed is needed, aged 3yrs to 11yrs inclusive) sharing a room with two others (whether it be adults or children) on an extra bed. This is a third person rate for children.

Destination:-Solio Ranch

Solio Ranch (also Solio Game Reserve) on Laikipia Plateau was founded in 1970 as a breeding ground for white and black rhinos. This has been extremely successful, and many rhino have been translocated to other parks and reserves. This small conservancy is literally full of rhino and a variety of other safari animals have been introduced as well. The rhino is a member of the ‘Big-Five’, which are a key tourist attraction; other wildlife at Solio include the buffalo, zebra, giraffe and plains game such as eland, oryx, impala, waterbuck, Thompson’s gazelle and warthog.
