The jewel in the Governors’ Camp crown; for those who want an exclusive taste of the Governors’ experience.

Often referred to as the ‘jewel in the Governor’s Camp crown’, Private Camp can either be booked by one family or group at a time, so it’s yours to enjoy – as the name suggests – in private. The camp can also be booked on a tent-by-tent basis to share with others. We’ve picked a spot where a variety of animals come to drink, hippo laze in the shallows and elephant bring their calves for a playful dip. The forest around the camp is home to many beautiful birds from rare Trogons and Turacos to nesting Hornbills.Personal attention is the hallmark of a stay here. Your manager is also your host and is on hand to see to all your desires and answer all your questions. You benefit from our very best guides and trackers whose knowledge of the Reserve is unsurpassed. Backed by the vast resources of the Governors’ Family of Camps, this is the ultimate safari.Only eight tents ensure total peace and privacy at Governors’ Private Camp: they are positioned on wooden platforms with extended verandahs – designed to offer guests the traditional safari experience of times gone by. There is electric lighting in the tent and charging facilities and a new bar and dining tent overlooking the Mara River with wifi. The food is delicious, our desserts have been called “sinful”, and the drinks all included, except for champagne.

The Masai Mara

Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometers of unspoiled wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya, but anywhere in Africa.

The views across the rolling golden grasslands studded with acacia trees, rivers and forests are dazzling, the sense of space overwhelming. Throughout the year the Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of colour and life. Most stunning of all are the months between July and October, when the savannah teems with animals during the Great Wildebeest Migration. Millions of wildebeest gather in the Masai Mara in one of the natural wonders of the world. Staying in one of the Governors’ Camp properties puts you right in the heart of the action, closer than anyone else to its incredible sights and sounds.
