Camp Overview

Mara Nyika, meaning “Large Plains or Great Plains,” is an intimate Five tent camp as well as a private 2 bedroom Mara Nyika Jahazi Suite. This suite includes the services of a private butler, chef and services of a private game viewing vehicle and guide. set in a valley, straddling a small stream on the western side of the Naboisho Conservancy bordering the Maasai Mara.Mara Nyika’s Five light-coloured canvas tents were designed to sit under the canopy of umbrella thorn trees while still offering guests views out over the plains. Walkways from the tents to the main area evoke the feeling of a treehouse under canvas and the camp’s ethic and inspiration is one of exploration and adventure. Privacy is the key to Mara Nyika.

  • Accommodation:Fully inclusive of all scheduled activities, meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including imported spirits and champagne. Park fees and flights are additional.
  • Number of Guests:Mara Nyika can accommodate 8 guests sharing, plus an additional guide’s tent as required.
  • Children from 8 years are welcome and can be accommodated in our family suite.
  • Activities:Early morning, late afternoon and night game drives in an open, 4×4 vehicle as well as the option of getting to know more about the local Maasai Community. Balloon flights across the Maasai Mara can be arranged but are at an additional cost.

Many guests opt to spend a few days at Mara Nyika Camp combined with a stay at our Mara Expedition Camp, Mara Toto Camp, Mara Plains Camp or The Jahazi Suite at Mara Plains. This perfect safari in Kenya combination allows one to experience all three wildlife areas: the private Olare Motorogi and Naboisho Conservancies and the Maasai Mara Reserve. Each wildlife experience from our camps is unique and offers a different face to the incredible Maasai Mara ecosystem.

Bedroom features

– 3 Guest suites, one 2-bedroom family suite and one 2-bedroom private Sambuk Suite;

– 1,000 sq. foot tented rooms with private verandah (ofnearly equal size);

– The Family Suite enjoys a common lounge area, flanked by two bedrooms (one with double bed and other with twin bed configuration), and two en-suite bathrooms(one with bath and shower and one with only shower);

– The 2-bedroom private Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika offers private wildlife viewing vehicle & guide

– Customized, large, elevated, tree house-styled canvas tented suites on raised wooden decking and linked to main area by raised wooden walkways;

– Desk and dressing area as well as small lounge;

– Bar fridge with drinks of choice;

– Tea/Coffee station;

– Suites are light beige in colour with high ceilings and netted windows, so are airy and bright;

– Overhead ceiling fan;

– Either twin or double bed configuration.

Accommodating Children- Sharing

The Camp wellcome children who are 6 years and older;

– Triples for children sharing with adults may be arranged upon request;

The Nyika Family Suite is perfectly suited to accommodate families consisting of 2 adults and 2 children (aged 6 – 15) sharing or 3 adults sharing;

The private Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika can cater for a maximum of four adults sharing or two adults and up to three children (aged 6 – 15), sharing in two separate bedrooms;

Child Policy

– Families with children may be accommodated in the same vehicle as other guests;

– Young children must be supervised as the camp is open, with high predator densities in and around camp and there is a river nearby;

– Great Plains Young Explorers Kid’s program is available

  • Fully inclusive of accommodation, all conservation/park fees, scheduled wildlife viewing vehicle activities on Naboisho Conservancy, all meals, laundry, return airstrip road transfers, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages including premium brand spirits and champagne.
    • Exclusive of in camp spa treatments, wildlife viewing activities in the Maasai Mara National Reserve for those staying only 1 or 2 nights, and hot air ballooning which should be booked in advance.
    • Every 3 night + stay includes one day’s wildlife viewing in the Maasai Mara Reserve per stay. For guests staying 1 or 2 nights only, an additional Maasai Mara National Reserve entrance fee is applicable.
    • The return scheduled seat in plane air transfers from Nairobi Wilson or properties in the greater Maasai Mara region to this camp are automatically included in the full nightly rate – subject to a minimum 2-night stay. Where air transfers are from properties located outside of these routings, the standard applicable flying costs will apply.
    • Local airlines offer twice daily scheduled flights between Nairobi’s Wilson airport and Naboisho (Ol Seki) airstrip. Schedule and rates available on request. Minimum 2 guests required per flight.
    • Local airlines use a variety of aircraft ranging from a Cessna Caravan (12 seats) to a 40-seat aircraft. The flying times are approximate as the service could land at additional airstrips en route, depending on passenger demand.
    • ** Maasai Mara National Reserve fee is subject to change without prior notice.
    • The Maasai Mara National Reserve and Great Plains Foundation Conservation & Community Contribution is applicable to all private pilot
    • Late check outs are not available.*For all multiple single-room reservations in shoulder and low season, a single supplement will apply from the 2nd single room.
    • Each guest suite includes one pair of high quality binoculars and a professional camera set, including camera body and lenses for guest’s complimentary use. Photos will be downloaded to a memory stick on guest’s departure.

  • The 2-Bedroom Family Suite sleeps 3 adults sharing or 2 adults and 2 children of 6-15 years.
  • Nightly rates include the services of a private game drive vehicle and guide.
THE SAMBUK SUITE AT MARA NYIKA
  • The Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika is an exclusive use two-bedroom suite which can accommodate 4 adults sharing or a maximum of 5 guests for families with children. Exceptions may apply.
  • Child rates and private vehicle requirements do not apply because the Suite is sold on exclusive use basis only.
