Overview

The beauty of Lewa Wilderness isn’t just in the incredible scenery and wildlife explored daily with game drives – but in the wealth of activities and experiences to be had at every turn. Situated on the edge of one of Kenya’s most private wildlife and environmental conservation projects, the wildlife-rich Lewa provides guests a home-away-from-home experience that’s hard to find these days. When you arrive at the lodge, you’ll immediately feel like you’re with family. Just nine exclusive rooms dot the Lewa Wilderness landscape. Six cottages are tucked into the hillside overlooking the sprawling Eastern Marania Valley, plus a further three garden cottages that are cozy yet expansive are set amongst the beautiful lawn. At Lewa Wilderness we go beyond the game drive, with exceptional wildlife and wilderness viewing opportunities. From the traditional game viewing vehicles (we’ve recently converted one of our Landcruisers to be 100% electric), to guided walks and breathtaking scenic flights in our retro yellow WACO bi-plane to unforgettable horse riding safaris for all ages and levels and even camel riding and fly camping. As a guest with us, you are automatically supporting the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, renowned for both its pioneering conservation initiatives as well as community and education programs.

The Homestead

welcome to lewa wilderness. On arrival, guests are immediately struck by the peace and tranquility of the grounds – a lush oasis teeming with colourful bougainvillea. The vast array of birdlife in the gardens could keep you entertained for hours on end, so much so that you might never want to leave!

From the gardens we come upon the heart of Lewa Wilderenss. The sitting room is filled with an extensive library of books for all readers and is where afternoon tea & coffee are served. Walking out onto the verandah, an open air room for guests to enjoy throughout the day, where you’ll find wifi should you wish to stay connected with the outside world during your stay.

Opposite from the deck is the open air dining room, which enjoys fabulous views of the hillside, providing game viewing opportunities whilst tucking into a delicious breakfast and lunch. At night, guests usually gather around the long dining table to have a seated and served dinner listening to the sounds of the African night. In response to COVID-19, we have set up individual tables throughout the dining room and expansive sitting room deck, to ensure proper distancing measures. Accommodation

Lewa Wilderness has nine exclusive accommodation options for guests to call home during their stay. There are 6 thatched cottages, built into the hillside with stunning visas overlooking Lewa’s Eastern Marania Valley. These provide the ultimate in privacy, where guests will feel like they are the only occupants for miles. A further 3 garden cottages are set amongst the brilliant green lawns, each boasting a sizable open plan living area complete with fireplace, flanked by a large room and bathroom on each side. the hillside

There are six individual hillside cottages, each with a unique layout. These cottages were built to capture the stunning views out over the valley and the sound of the river below where elephant, giraffe, rhino, zebra and more all come to drink. Each cottage has en-suite facilities, a cosy sitting area and fireplace, and a private outdoor verandah where one can enjoy a morning coffee whilst watching the sunrise – as well as a private dinner.

the garden

These are the original rooms built by David and Delia Craig when they started the lodge. They are the cottages closest to the main house and living areas, and each consists of two en-suite bedrooms joined by a comfortable sitting area with a bar and cosy fireplace. The three garden rooms are exceptionally spacious and with recent renovations, bright and sunny, perfect for families and also those who do not wish to be too far from the main areas.
